What is a Co-Lab

Challenge?

Catalyst Co-Labs help a changemaking organization overcome an important challenge, or opportunity, they are facing in order to achieve their desired impact.

To understand how we do this, see “What is a Co-Lab and how does it work?“

A Co-Lab Challenge / Problem is:

  • Specific & well defined

  • Solve-able

  • Scalable or replicable

  • Relatable in different regions/contexts

  • Partnership friendly

Examples of Challenges:

  • How do we connect a network of educators geographically distributed across multiple languages and cultures?

  • How do we get street vendors across India to adopt a recyclable cloth bag to solve the plastic bag waste problem?

  • We need help to quickly adapt our education & mental health methodology for children to a wartime situation in the Middle East.

  • How can we develop impact metrics that measure collaboration among the social entrepreneurs in our network across Africa?

  • We need to present policy recommendations related to mental health and climate change to the Scandinavia governments, that reflect voices of those impacted from around the world.

A Catalyst Co-Lab challenge is not:

  • Too large

  • Too complex

  • Too specific or tactical

  • A fundraising issue

Examples of what is not an accepted Co-Lab Challenge:

  • We want to invite potential customers to give us feedback on our new product

  • How do I raise funds?

  • How do I change agricultural policy in my country?
